Wandering Tuesday: Really? We Live Here?

I guess during the day Maureen works or goes to school or something.  Not sure, but since the kid I volunteer with called in sick I did too!  I was running an errand and decided to do a little driving.  I took of in what turned out to be a northeasterly direction and ended up in Cumberland, where I got to drive by the much celebrated Cumberland County Fairgrounds.  Maureen and I will have to go to see how it compares to Hillsdale County's fair.  (Is it really the world's most popular?)

From there I wandered back down to the coast ending up in the Yarmouth area.  The following pictures are from Sandy Point Beach.  As I crossed the bridge in the photo below I spotted a sign and a little turn off so I stopped to check it out.  Now, we live in what is considered Southern Maine.  Southern Maine is by far the most populated region in the state so the waterfront is largely private access in this particular section of coast. So, I was glad to find a place where a commoner like myself could enjoy the water and the beach.  When we travel farther and get more into the Mid-coast and Downeast region's this become less and less of a problem.

But for today, I was here...

The bridge connecting Cousins Island and the mainland.

Don't get excited.  That's not a lighthouse.  Just a power plant.   An incredibly scenic power plant.

It was really amazing watching the gulls fly up in the air to drop mussels  on the rocks to crack them open.   *sidenote:  we really need to give seagulls a break.  They're really quite beautiful.  We knock them for eating garbage all the time but isn't that just being resourceful?  Bald eagles were too good/stupid to eat trash and look what happened to them.
Anyway...

Low Tide.

Self Portrait 2.
I'm not smiling.  My face is like that because I was freeeeeeezing and super windy on the shore.  EEE!

Sandy Point.

Ocean.  Well not technically ocean.  I think this would actually be considered  either Broad Sound or just Casco Bay.
